Alisa Bender, Hawaii, MEd Student

After graduating with a 4.0 GPA in Sociology and Journalism, Alisa served as a reporter for the Honolulu Advertiser.

Her decision to pursue a Master of Education in Secondary Education grew out of her experiences at James Campbell High School in Honolulu.

"Hawaii Pacific University was a logical choice for me. The admissions department promptly returned my calls, met with me and answered all my questions."

Friends describe Alisa as always upbeat, organized and nurturing, a true pillar of her community. She currently serves on the neighborhood board for Ewa Beach.

What is PRAXIS?

The Praxis Series includes assessments that correspond to two key milestones in your development as a teacher: entering a teacher training program and obtaining a license to teach. Hawaii Pacific University requires applicants to successfully pass the Praxis I: Pre-Professional Skills Test in order to be admitted to its Teacher Education program. The PRAXIS I provides testing in three areas, Reading, Writing, and Mathematics

Note: Successfully passing the PRAXIS II: Content Knowledge Test is required for Hawaii Pacific University's Master of Education in Secondary Education program.  However, the PRAXIS II: Content Knowledge Test scores do not need to be submitted to admissions during the application process.  Students have the flexibility of successfully completing the PRAXIS II Content Knowledge Test anytime before the completion of the first four core courses.
